Guidelines for evaluation of videotaped lesson:
You are to video tape a lesson of your choice. Then you are to use the attached rubric to rate the lesson and then write an analysis of the lesson using the following criteria. Turn in the tape and analysis to your professor. The professor will review the tape and your analysis and provide written feedback.
a. fosters development of clearly delineated concepts of the subject being
taught
b. employs the appropriate learning processes as an integral part of the activities.
4. Identify the evidence which suggests that the individual experiences activities:
a. which are directly relevant to the concepts of the subject being taught
b. tap the children’s natural curiosity and interests
c. allows for children to have some control of the activity
5. Identify the evidence which indicates that the learning experiences are designed to help children discover appropriate learning principles for themselves.
6. Identify evidence which exists to show that you help children understand the relevance of the featured activities to the concepts being addressed.
7. Identify the evidence that indicates that the children are deeply engaged intellectually as they actively participate in the subject being taught.
8. Identify the evidence that indicates that you encourage the posing of questions
and formulating and discussing ideas.
9. Identify the evidence which reveals that you challenge the children’s thinking while interacting with them.
10. Identify the evidence which verifies that the children engage in appropriate
learning activities as they work with other children and/or they engage in
independent activities.
11. Identify the evidence which shows your ability to:
a. reflect on children’s learning
b. examine your role in fostering engagement and learning
c. identify areas that need improvement and/or you would do differently
when teaching the lesson again
