Format for a Personal Goals Paper in the Piedmont EDS Cohort
A Personal Goals Plan for the Professional Development of
Candidate’s Name: ____________________________________
I. Philosophical Framework and Rationale:
In this section, you need to verbalize your philosophy of teaching (especially your perception as to what teaching is). Next, in general terms, you need to verbalize how you think participation in the Piedmont EDS Cohort program will compliment your teaching philosophy and contribute to your general growth as a teacher.
II. Selection of Areas for Development:
Using the STAR Instrument and the EDS CCLO PORTFOLIO RUBRIC, select three areas or items that you feel you may need to work on to improve or enhance your practice as a teacher. Be as specific as you can in attempting to identify areas of weakness or concern. If participation in any of the classes that you have already had has assisted you in making these determinations, indicate it.
III. Formulation of Strategies for Improvement:
Verbalize ways in which you plan to try to improve or enhance in the areas you have selected. Again, if anything that you have experienced in the classes you have had or those that you will have enables you to improve, be sure to include it.
Implement the strategies.
(The Formulation section will change and be revised more than any other as the year proceeds. It is possible that your research work will make up a major portion of this section. Certainly, it should complement the effort.)
IV. Report on the Results of the Improvement Effort:
This, of course, will be a summary of the results of you efforts at improvement. It will come late in the year, near the completion of the EDS program. The central theme is “how did what you did make a difference.”
V. Design for Further Improvement
Just as we never cease to learn, we never cease to need improvement and enhancement. The final portion of your plan will be the seeds of a further plan for improvement or enhancement. What needs to be done next?
